Moving my blog

Hello!  I know I mentioned that I might be moving my blog and I just wanted to update here and let you all know that I had.  My son hasn't finished working on my blog template (he is busy helping dad on the house and working on his truck) but I've decided that I would much rather be sowing the $8 a month it costs to have Typepad host my blog and so after chatting with my husband a bit I've made the switch to a new blog.  You can see our heart and reason for switching in this post. 

I hope you'll update your bookmark and visit me at the new Everyday Sacred.  I'm still fiddling with the free blog designs so it might look a little different until I have it just the way I want it.

 

Proverbs 31 Summer Study

"Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.  It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:"  Proverbs 31:3-4

This week I began the Proverbs 31 summer study with Good Morning Girls and my personal Good Morning Girls group.  For 14 weeks we will go through Proverbs 31 verse by verse, using the S.O.A.P method.  You can find more info. about the study HERE. 

Here are a few thoughts on today's verses (above) from my quiet time:

~ This mother was sharing with her son that a man can give his strength to a woman and so obviously there are women who are more than willing to take this strength.  

~ When I first read these verses my mind thought of other women who would try to take the strength from men through flirtacious adulterous relationships etc. but as I thought further, the Lord showed me that if I am not intentional, I too could take my husbands strength.  I could take my husbands strength by manipulation even if its not done maliciously.  Scott loves to do things for me and to make me happy but I see that I need to be so careful about this.  Disrespect will tear him down quicker than anything; depleating his strength rather than my bolstering it with my gentle words and admiration. 

~ In regards to myself, how could I give my strength away?    If I am not guarding myself I can let others emotionally pull on me.  Have you ever been in a friendship like this?  I have and we need to guard ourselves in this area.  My attention and strength can also be drained by outside activities, jobs and social media thus tiring and wearing me out from doing the things the Lord calls me to be doing in my home.  And while ministering to others is something we are called to do, I am called to first serve my husband and family.

~ As for wine and strong drink, I am of the thought that anyting good enough for a king is good enough for me.  Why would I want to live with lower standards?  With Jesus our King as our example we are called to live holy lives because He is holy.  

~ Knowing what the word says about wine and strong drink and having strong personal convictions in these areas are very important but just as important is having a plan.  Knowing ahead of time what you will or wont compromise on and how you will respond.  For the most part my children are not exposed to this with their peers but our extended families do not carry the same convictions and so it is a topic that needs to constantly be addressed in our home as they see aunts, uncles and grandparents making these choices in their lives.

My application for today's verses is to be intentional about where my strength is spent.  Making sure that I am serving my husband and family first and others second.  Also, to examine the ways in which I can build up my husbands strength, thus being a help to him.  

The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ May 14th

Outside my window... The sun is shining and there is a breeze.  It will be a beautiful day today.

I am hearing... birds singing and my husband hammering.

I am thinking... that we need to get these library books back to the library today.  They are already overdue!

I am thankful for...  the wonderful Mother's Day I had yesterday and the sweetness of my children.  :)

I am wearing...  an older jean skirt (an everyday, house skirt) and a pink and lime green top with my crocs. 

From the kitchen... I have to clean a little in there first but today we are browning ground beef and turkey and packaging them to put in the freezer.  This saves me so much time throughout the week.  We pull it out for quick BBQ's, Spaghetti, and to add to casseroles. 

I am going... launder and hang out my sheets today.  :)

I am creating...  or I should say, my husband is creating.... a new look for our house.  We are putting in all new windows and siding the house.  This would be an easier task if our house was not a log home.  Yes, we are siding our log home.  The home was built and not maintained very well and there are many, many dry rotted logs on the North and South sides of the house, especially under the windows.  We are cutting back to good log and building in walls and framing in windows.  It will be a long process but a good one as my husband and sons are doing the work themselves.  Once we've finished the outside we will begin the process of transforming the inside too. 

I am pondering...  The influence of a mother.

I am looking forward to... the summer and having a little more free time to work on some things that I've just not had time to get to.

From the learning rooms... No school going on in there today.  We are putting the room back together after having piled everything in the middle to work on the walls.

A quick hello

Happy Friday!  What a beautiful day here in Minnesota.  The sun is bright and the temps are warm but with a wonderful breeze.  I can hear my wind chime through the open dining room window.

This morning all four of the children had dental appointments.  Only one of them had a small cavity that will require a follow up visit in June, but we did learn that Andrew will at some point need braces.  Since he is only 9 and losing teeth VERY slowly it will be awhile but she did say that he will need them. 

We are home for a few hours and then this afternoon a few of us will be heading out for a baseball game with other young men from our church.  The boys are looking forward to the game and I'm thankful that the weather is warmer than last time.  I'm thinking a little nap is in order though.  I didn't sleep well last night with Andrew in bed and an annoying cat who kept bothering me.

Psalm 112

Praise ye the Lord.  Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth forever.

Let Faith Arise

The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ April 23rd, 2012

Outside my window... The sun is shining and there is a wonderful breeze blowing in the windows.

I am hearing... The sound of the lawn mower while Samantha mows.  The voices of my husband and boys are floating in through my open window.  They are working out in the garage.  Spring cleaning and yard work is in full force.

I am thinking... about how faithful the Lord is and how even in the midst of a storm I have peace.

I am thankful for... my husband.  He works very diligently and very hard!  He and Jonathan built me a clothesline.  We've not had one since we've lived in town and it brought me such joy today to hang clothes up outside and to see them blowing in the wind.  :)

I am wearing... a green and white tank top and some capri's.  I am barefoot and just came in from hanging clothes on my new clothesline.  :) 

From the kitchen... Samantha and I peeled and diced potatoes and beef sausage earlier this morning and put together this yummy recipe for lunch.  Tonight we are having a taco pie.

I am going... to hang another load of clothes on the line soon.

I am creating... a skirt.  Lisa, a sweet sister in the Lord and friend is helping/teaching me to sew.  I do o.kay with the sewing part; its the reading a pattern that I need help with.  Plus, its plain fun to fellowship and learn alongside someone else.  Thanks, Lisa!

I am pondering...  the goodness of the Lord and how merciful and gracious he has been in my life. 

I am looking forward to... cashing out tax refund and getting caught up with some things around here.  :)

From the learning rooms... No school today.  We did family worship this morning and then everyone got their marching orders as to who was doing what.  Samantha and I worked in the house and the boys, along with a friend of Jon's who showed up this morning, worked for 3 hours cleaning, sorting and organinzing things in the garage.  What a blessing to have this young man come and just jump in and help. 

We are switching our Friday and Monday around this week.  Usually Friday is our light or no school day but with Scott still home for the day and because the weekend was rainy we decided to switch them around and get some house/yard up-keep done.

I am reading... Family Driven Faith

I am praying... for our friends the Rolfzen's who are missionaries in Peru.  The Amazon River flooded 6 weeks ago and is still expected to rise over the next two weeks.  Camp Amazon, a camp for the underprivleged youth and homeless youth was set to begin but because of flooding they have cancelled the camps and instead are taking the camps along with food, clean water and other supplies to the thousands of displaced families living in small tents provided by the government.  What little sanitation they had is severely compromised and disease is quickly spreading.  Please, pray for the Rolfzens and the misnitry teams and for the Peruvian people.  I've included some pictures below.  If you'd like to donate financialy this would be greatly appreciated.  You can do so online at www.newcreationwoc.org .  Just click on the Give tab and then World Missions and scroll down until you find the Rolfzens in Peru.  All monies donated go directly to the Rolfzen's ministry and are not filtered through the churchs' finances.

Hello out there

I am still around but very busy and my time is very limited right now, thus no blogging.

I may be moving my blog to Wordpress too.  My son Jonathan is very interested in computers and writing programs and he has begun writing a blog format for me to use but through Wordpress.  It's so fun to watch him work and learn this as he has a gifting in this area. 

All this to say, I have no time for blogging right now but when I do it might not be here and if I do move and begin blogging, I'll be sure to update the address here on this blog.  :)

Mish Mash

Good Wednesday morning!  Nothing to exciting scheduled for today, I thought I would share a few pictures from the beginning of our week.

On Monday during reading time, I read the book Down Comes the Rain to Andrew.  I picked up this book as to read as part of our Spring reading basket books.  We did an activity to help show him how water turns to vapor.  I love to use hands on activities to help teach.   We used 1 cup of water and after 20 minutes we measured how much water was left.  Andrew thought that we would still have 1 cup of water when we measured but because some of the water turned to vapor we had less.  He then wanted to find out how long it would take for the water to completely disappear from the pan at a slow boil.  It was a total of 28 minutes.  :)

 

This activity was not planned into our schedule for the day but didn't take much extra time to do.   Andrew wsa able to recount this activity and what he learned about rain/clouds to his dad later in the evening.  At first when promted to tell about it he couldn't remember but then I reminded him about the activity and he quickly picked up and narrated to his dad.  When he was finished he said "I guess I really did learn something."  :o)

The boys have been enjoying riding the mower, minus the mower which hasn't been attatched yet.  Here they mid-morning on Monday.  I sent them out to get some of the wiggles out.

This last picture is a bit fuzzy but I thought it was cute.  Andrew took it Monday morning while the cats were waiting for their breakfast.  We keep their bowl on this bench so that the dogs don't eat the food.   From left to right we have Sassy (her name really suits her... she is also our only femaile), Garfield and Lovus.
